homemade recipes for moms
A warm fresh slice of home-made bread with melting butter is awesome; the fresh smell from the oven will want to make you cry. The very first time I learned how to make steamed bread was at the age of 11. Being brought up by my grandmother has taught me a lot of home bread making. My grandmother did not believe in going to buy bread from the shops while you can make yourself fresh home bread that is delicious and has no added preservatives.
We are not going to assume that every mom out there knows how to make steamed bread from scratch hence I have decided to share my simple lifetime recipe of making home fresh steamed bread. I am so used to making my family all home-made kinds of bread I no longer use a measuring cup, just mix and boom beautiful fresh home-made bread. Putting the recipe in the paper is not that easy but here is the recipe.
There is a slow a printable version of the recipe you can also pin the recipe for future use and sharing with others.
INGREDIENTS:
4 cups cake flour or even all-purpose flour
4 tablespoons sugar. You can use white or brown sugar
One packet instant dry yeast
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups lukewarm water
½ teaspoon oil
PREPARATION METHOD:
In a large bowl with a lid, mix the flour, sugar, and salt.
Add the yeast and mix.
Add the water and mix using your hands until combined. Your dough at this stage will be a little sticky. Put some little flour t make your kneading easier
Knead the dough using the heels of your hands for about 10 minutes. If your dough is too wet, you can dust the surface with more flour. The dough will be ready if you press it down gently with your finger and it springs back.
Put the dough back into the bowl, close the lid and cover with a dishcloth or two to keep it warm. You can even get a transparent plastic bag and cover it with it to keep warmer.
Leave the bowl in a warm place (not very hot) for about 2 hours or until the dough has risen and doubled in size.
Once the dough has risen, give the dough one last kneads for half a minute.
Using oil or butter greases the ceramic or stainless steel bowl. Make sure this bowl is heat resistant.
Alternatively, you can divide the dough and put in some coffee mugs and put them into the pot. The cups must be greased too.
in a large pot, place the bowl with the dough in the center and gently pour boiling water into the pot until the water rises from the bottom of the bowl to halfway. Be careful not to put too much water as you do not want it to bubble into your dough.
Close the pot tightly and boil for about an hour and a half. Only open the pot to refill with water.
Transfer onto a cooling rack and enjoy!
Please note the following:
Remember to check if the pot always has water and pour some. If the pot has no water, the bread will burn.
Always add the yeast into the dry ingredients last. Yeast and salt are not friends.
You can use brown bread flour or even whole wheat flour
There is also gluten-free flour that you can alternatively use
As a variation, you can sprinkle some parsley or some Grated carrots to make your steamed bread colorful
